Dr. Joseph Kiernan

Joseph P. Kiernan, M.D.



Dr. Joseph Kiernan trained at the University of Chicago where he achieved top honors. In college he received the prestigious Lincoln Award for combined academic achievement and leadership. He graduated Alpha Omega Alpha (top ten percent) from the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine. While chief resident at University of Chicago, he was elected to the Sigma Xi scientific honorary society.

Since 1982, Dr. Kiernan has practiced in the Chicago suburbs. He first became involved in refractive surgery in 1984. In the last twenty years he has performed over 12,000 ocular procedures including more than 4,000 refractive procedures. Dr. Kiernan and his practice became involved in laser vision correction in 1995 and since that time has performed over three thousand LASIK procedures. Included among these patients are other physicians, CEO’s, attorneys, engineers and members of the clergy. In 2001 Dr. Kiernan performed LASIK on his oldest son.

Dr. Kiernan was rated top hospital surgeon in three separate studies that look at efficiency, complication rate and results.

Dr. Kiernan has contributed to the field of ophthalmology by giving lectures, performing live surgery to teach other surgeons and inventing new instrumentation. For his public service he was granted the Lions Club International Governors Award. In 2006, Dr. Kiernan was honored by the Salvation Army for donating his time and expertise to a young Haitian man who had lost his sight years earlier to tuberculosis. Dr. Kiernan, teaming with physicians at Good Shepherd Hospital, performed a corneal transplant procedure on each eye in an effort to restore vision. When the young man flew back to his native country less than a week after the procedures, his sight had returned to the 20/70 level—good enough to pass a driver’s exam for daylight driving.

Dr. Kiernan and his family enjoy windsurfing, skiing, biking and reading.

Dr. Deena Leonard

Deena F. Leonard, M.D.



Dr. Deena Leonard specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus. Dr. Leonard is a graduate of Northwestern University Medical School and completed her residency at Northwestern. She earned a board-accredited fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Children’s Memorial Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Leonard is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Medical Association and the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.

Dr. Leonard is uniquely qualified to treat ocular disease in infants, children and teens. Dr. Leonard surgically treats muscle imbalance, blocked tear ducts and premature infant conditions. She also performs routine eye examinations and fits contacts lenses on children and teens. Dr. Leonard puts children and parents at ease in a child-friendly environment, thoroughly explaining your child’s condition and her recommended treatment approach.

Adults with eye muscle disorders can benefit from Dr. Leonard’s expertise as well. She is specially trained to treat adults with misaligned eyes and other medical conditions that cause double vision.

Dr. Leonard and her husband Stephen have two children.

Dr. Dana Kolton

Dana Kolton, M.D.



Dr. Dana Kolton is board certified in ophthalmology and a member of the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. Dr. Kolton graduated from the University of Illinois, Chicago Medical School and served her residency in ophthalmology at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Kolton completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Dr. Kolton treats ocular disease in infants, children and adults. She is trained to surgically repair misaligned eyes, open blocked tear ducts and remove congenital cataracts. Dr. Kolton also performs routine eye examinations and fits contact lenses on children and teens.

Dr. Kolton possesses a wonderful “bedside” manner, which both patient and parent appreciate. Her careful review and explanation of any diagnosis, as well as her treatment recommendation, reassure parents that their children are in good hands.

Dr. Kathy Anderson

Kathy Anderson, M.D.



Dr. Kathy Anderson is a graduate of Northwestern University Medical School and specializes in Pediatric Ophthalmology and adult eye alignment problems. She also has a special interest in glaucoma in children and adults. Dr. Anderson did her Ophthalmology Residency at Northwestern and completed her Pediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship at Childrens Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

She is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, and the Christian Medical Association.

Dr. Anderson loves working with children and tries to make the eye exam fun and interesting. She worked for 16 years in DeKalb-Sycamore,IL prior to joining Premier Eye Care and Surgery.

Dr. Larry Cuttone

Larry Cuttone, M.D.



Dr. Cuttone is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois where he was recognized as a James Scholar. His medical and specialty training in ophthalmology was completed at Northwestern University.

Dr. Cuttone has practiced for more than twenty-five years. He specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology, treating ocular disease and emergencies as well as providing routine eye care.

Dr. Cuttone and his wife Sharon have one child and enjoy playing golf.

Dr. Charles Donlea

Charles Donlea, O.D.



Dr. Donlea is a licensed optometrist and a member of the Illinois and American Optometric Associations. Dr. Donlea completed his undergraduate work at Drake University and received his optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry, where he ranked in the top 10% of his class and was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honorary Society. He completed clinical rotations and internships at the Illinois Eye Institute, the Naval Hospital and Great Lakes Naval Base and the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Donlea has a special interest in treating ocular surface disease (Dry Eye Syndrome), as well as fitting custom contact lenses for keratoconus and corneal transplant patients. Dr. Donlea is certified in Corneal Refractive Therapy, a treatment to reduce or eliminate glasses through the use of therapeutic, overnight contact lenses. Dr. Donlea also performs routine eye examinations for teens and adults.

Dr. Donlea and his wife Amy have two children. He enjoys golf and fishing.

Dr. Marina Roytman

Marina Roytman, O.D.



Dr. Roytman is a licensed optometrist and a graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Roytman is a member of the Illinois Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Roytman performed clinical rotations at the Naval Hospital at Great Lakes Naval Base, Illinois Eye Institute and Wood-ICRE Center for the Blind.

Dr. Roytman has a special interest in Low Vision and Visual Rehabilitation for patients suffering vision loss from such conditions as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and ocular trauma. Dr. Roytman fits specialty contact lenses, including monovision and bifocal lenses. Dr. Roytman also performs routine eye examinations for teens and adults.

Dr. Roytman speaks fluent Russian and enjoys playing the piano. She and her husband Michael have two children.
