The LASIK Procedure
LASIK is an acronym for Laser In-situ Keratomileusis, which means,
“to shape the cornea within using a laser”. The goal of LASIK is to correct
vision by reshaping the cornea (clear outer surface of the eye) so light focuses
precisely on the retina. The result is a clear image on the retina.
1. Your LASIK surgeon will anesthetize your eye with drops that will numb the cornea.
2. Then your surgeon will create a very thin flap of your cornea. The flap remains attached to the cornea and is folded back.
3. The surgeon applies the laser and reshapes the corneal tissue beneath the flap.
4. The surgeon closes and repositions the flap.
5. The flap adheres naturally and securely.
